What is DOTS?
DOTS is a bodyweight-adjusted score for comparing powerlifting totals across weight classes and between lifters of different sizes. It was introduced as a modern replacement for the Wilks formula, and OpenPowerlifting ranks lifters by DOTS by default. Many federations outside the IPF use it to decide best-lifter awards.
The DOTS formula
DOTS = total × 500 / (A + B·BW + C·BW² + D·BW³ + E·BW⁴), where BW is bodyweight in kilograms and A–E are separate constants for men and women.
- Men: A = −307.75076, B = 24.0900756, C = −0.1918759221, D = 0.0007391293, E = −0.000001093
- Women: A = −57.96288, B = 13.6175032, C = −0.1126655495, D = 0.0005158568, E = −0.0000010706
As on OpenPowerlifting, bodyweight is limited to 40–210 kg for men and 40–150 kg for women. Example: a 90 kg man with a 600 kg total scores about 388 DOTS.
